It's Been a While!

Well the school year came and there went my "free time". I haven't posted on here in months. I have wanted to post pictures of my travels with my kids "around the world" but preferred my sleep instead. Do forgive me! :) I still plan to do so especially since we are approaching our 4th trip now. The kids have LOVED it!

The perks of teaching in the high country means we have quite a bit of Snow Days!! We are projected to have about 3-6 inches today and I am really excited about that! We cancelled school today due to the projection of snow. As fast as this front has approached I am glad our county office staff made the call to cancel.

On a different note,

I created a Pakistan Travel Unit that can be found in my TpT store for only $3.00. It's packed with note taking pages and websites for the kids to view and research about the culture of Pakistan. I will be traveling to Pakistan in just a few short weeks as part of a foreign exchange program through our school system and a school in Pakistan. I am very anxious and excited about this opportunity to experience the culture and school community first hand there in Pakistan.

Well I am off to plan those NINE sub days for when I am in Pakistan! Yuck! No teacher likes to plan for a sub, not even for one day, especially not nine! Say a prayer for us teachers and those in Pakistan as well!

Back to School Forms and Activities!

I have worked so hard on this product! It is a Back to School Packet containing all you need for your 2nd grade classroom!!!

A detailed description of this product:

This is a PDF product that has multiple options to suit your needs as a classroom teacher.

This packet contains 46 pages of forms and activities to use for a Meet Your Teacher night and or send home to guardians on the first day of school. Before each new form/activity is a direction sheet on how to use the following pages.

This packet includes:
  • Welcome to Second Grade (checksheet of things to do when families arrive such as Hug your teacher, Sign In, Sort Classroom Materials, Fill out Information Form, Don’t forget to take home envelope with forms to return and any items on child’s desk.)

  • Meet Your Teacher blurb about you to personalize either via pen or with Adobe PDF editor. Sorry I couldn’t make this editable for copyright reasons. I did include my write up as a model if you’d like to follow my example.

  • Student Information for guardians to fill out about their child. Things on the form include, name, nickname, address, phone, 2 guardian names and phone numbers, emergency contact numbers if cannot reach the guardians, how the child will travel home on the first day of school and the remainder of the year, any allergies or other important information.

  • Helping Hands for guardians to fill out if he/she can volunteer in any way in the following areas: grade parent, copy room helper, small group helper, take it home helper, special event helper, field trip helper.

  • All About Me activity to put on paper bag for students that includes five different forms where each includes a day of the week where students will return the bag with 4 items to describe him/her.

  • Sweet Dreams booklet to open the night before first day where you will need to include a little baggie of confetti or glitter. There is an adorable poem on the inside I found on the internet with no author known. If it’s yours please let me know and I will be glad to give you proper credit. This is my favorite activity of this packet. I will punch two holes through it and tie with a ribbon for the kids to open the night before their first day of school. The poem tells the kids to place the confetti under his/her pillow to help him/her sleep well before the first day- SO cute!

  • 2nd Grade Expectations include We will statements such as: arrive each day rested and ready for a new day, follow directions the first time they are given, share and take turns, apologize and forgive, use good manners such as “please”, “thank you”, “yes/no ma’am” and “yes/no sir”, treat others with kindness and compassion, keep our hands, feet and bodies to ourselves, do our best, always, have fun!!

  • What is my child learning in 2nd Grade is a detailed description of the CCSS that are taught to each child as well as explains what he/she is learning during morning work, free time and Specials.

I have created in my packet for my parents a schedule page that is not included here (Because I’m sure your schedule is different than mine! :)) I am sorry that I couldn’t make an editable schedule sheet for you due to copyright terms.

There are 46 pages in all in this packet! WHEW!! I hope that you find it useful and fitting for everything you will need in those first few days before school starts!

Erin Condren Love

Let me just say....I AM IN LOVE WITH MY PLAN BOOK!!!!

I truly cannot express how deeply excited I am to have this plan book for this school year. Here are the reasons why I purchased such an expensive (but worth every cent) lesson plan book.

1. We lost our 2nd grade assistant this year at my school. She didn't lose her job- Praise the Lord!- but 2nd grade as a team doesn't have an assistant (and I really LOVED ours) :( She is now placed in 1st grade. Well, with her not being there I HAVE to be  o-r-i-g-a-n-i-z-e-d!

2. I have searched and searched for a plan book that has the following items: A) Full page spread of monthly calendars as well as a year at a glance calendar to plan the timing of units and such. B) lesson plan pages  (DUH!) but sections that have a spot to write reminders in the morning as well as enough about the daily lessons without being too small nor too large! C) Grade book embedded into the plan book to have it all in one!- A MUST!

3. Lastly I really wanted a plan book that wasn't solid color and boring. I wanted one that looked cheery and made me happy to write and plan.

Well...that isn't too much to ask right? :) I searched high and low from every teacher store I could think of online and every book was the same...boring and had a lot of wasted pages/space. So I opted to make my own....NOPE, NOPE, NOPE...I will NEVER try that again! I wanted the throw my computer out the window about 10 minutes in for frustration with layout and formatting. Not to mention my attempt to make my own would NOT have been durable at all and would have been more annoying for me because I would have been copying/printing pages for each week and "ain't nobody got time for that!" :)

So friends...I purchased the Erin Condren Teacher's Plan book and could NOT be happier with it! I ordered it the beginning of July (11th I think) and received it August 6th. I was happier than a possum eatin' briars when I saw THIS on my front porch that Tuesday afternoon!
Everything from the packaging to the actual product is cute and put together with love! :)

Now this is what was inside the cute box!

And most importantly inside the cute red wrapping paper was this beauty!!! MY PLAN BOOK!!!!
The quote is one I chose from my favorite poster in my room "A day without laughter is a day wasted". I wanted something to inspire me every day this year when I read it and I hope this quote will...especially on them cloudy days.

Here are the other goodies I purchased as well to complete the set!

I couldn't be happier about the fact everything...did I say everything? EVERYTHING was created, made and put together IN THE US of A! WOOP WOOP! That just added a cherry and whip cream to this deal!

Well...if you have stuck with this post to the end...you're a trooper! Thanks for sharing with me in the excitement of my plan book! Or on the other hand I hope you have enjoyed making internal fun of me about my nerdiness for the excitement for my plan book! Either way I am happy and I hope you are too! :)

Well, I am off to plan in my sweet plan book! If you'd like to purchased any of Erin Condren's products just google search her name and her site is the first to show up! The prices are high but the quality is even higher! Have a blessed day, friends!

Broken Hundreds Boards!

I have finished uploading my 30 broken hundreds boards! They are missing digits and need the students to "fix them" by filling in the missing numbers.

This beauty is only $2.00 on my TpT store! Click this link here to go straight to the page or check out the image of my store on the right sidebar!

I hope that you find these useful for you and your kiddos! What I did was print 2 copies of each page then glue to construction paper and laminate. The students would then take dry erase markers to "fix the hundreds board". Myself or a student partner would check their completed board before erasing and moving on to another blank board. The students loved it and we would practice this throughout the year either whole group or small group centers. I also have used these for interventions for my struggling students with number sense.

If you have any questions just let me know! Thanks for stopping by!
